Director's statement
The Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal and the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants are the most significant international treaties currently in force for the management of hazardous wastes and chemicals.

The creation of the Regional Centers is a strong act by the Contracting Parties to the Basel and Stockholm Conventions.
